Kenkyukai

The research group within our company, Kenkyukai was set up to study the intricate history of Japanese folk dance. Through the examination of oral and written history, literature, and field research, we hope to reveal each dance’s origins and evolution. By visiting the local areas where each dance is from, we can gain first hand knowledge of the important cultural ties between people and their dance. This work has the added benefit of providing a constant source of new material for our performances.
